The Scruffy Traveler
Hi there! My name’s Nick Helmick, and this is my blog. I’m originally from Buffalo NY, but on January 1st, 2022 I sold most of my belongings and moved into my car to travel the United States. Since then I’ve seen some pretty awesome things and met even awesome-er people.
I write here mainly as a creative outlet, to record my ideas from the road and share my personal journey as a man seeking joy through travel while trying to build a fulfilling and useful life — and having a damn good time along the way.
Common themes in my writing are: material minimalism, digital minimalism, optimism, budget travel, motivation, nomadic living, modern ethics and morality.
Ultimately, I’d like to live a life with few regrets and become the best version of myself in the process. Hopefully, I can inspire others to do the same.
